Conner Prairie has to be one of our all time favorite places! It is different every time we go and the kids love all the adult interaction. A couple of weeks ago, we had the inspection of our home that was set for four hours. When faced with that many hours our of the house, we decided Conner Prairie was the place to go.
On this excursion, we learned how to be soldiers on our way to fight at the Alamo. We practiced holding our guns, walking in file and figuring out which way to turn when the leader called out different things. Anya didn't like it much, but the rest of us had a good time. I must point out that we did not hold actual guns. When given the real guns, I couldn't hold it up for more than a minute! Those things are heavy!!
In one of the houses we were able to gather, clean and fry dandelions - they taste a bit like mushrooms. The herbalist taught us how to make tea and lemonade with the lemon balm that is taking over out planter beds. (We tried this later that night and discovered that the lemonade we made tasted more like grassy lemons than anything else!) In the pottery area the kids had a great time making little animals with their clay.
We had a great time and have signed the kids up for a week of summer camp there this summer. Hyrum wanted to do the adventure camp and the girls (minus Anya) are going to do the art camp. They are very excited and I am so looking forward to driving almost four hours a day. Did I mention that Conner Prairie is 45 minutes away?
